Measuring the footprint of a cultural place on a territory: observing, representing, evaluating

15.11.2019 - 15.11.2019

Venue: Maison internationale de la recherche, Neuville-sur-Oise

Facing the increase of social inequalities, the aggravation of situations of exclusion, the renewed issues of "living together", cultural institutions are re-examining their role in the city, and the impact of their artistic and cultural activities with the inhabitants. A growing number of cultural organisations are inventing new strategies that will allow them to become more open to the city and take into account the social issues of the territories in which they operate.  But how to evaluate and measure their impacts on the urban societies? How to build qualitative indicators to measure what some cultural stakeholder call their "civic footprint" on their social and spatial environment? As part of a research conducted by the MRTE geography laboratory of the University of Cergy-Pontoise, in partnership with the National Scene of Essonne, Agora-Desnos and the Bobigny MC93, a workshop will be held on November 15, 2019 at the University of Cergy-Pontoise. This day, entitled "Measuring the footprint of a cultural place on a territory: observing, representing, evaluating", aims to cross the eyes of researchers and professionals, and to discuss the methodological aspects of evaluation and construction of qualitative indicators. It will articulate interventions by researchers and cultural professionals. This day is aimed at researchers, cultural actors as well as representatives of the State and local authorities concerned by these issues.
